Painter, sculptor, lithographer, and comix. A major figure in the French Romantic style period in the early 19th century. Developed his skills by copying at the Louvre, studied under C. Vernet and P. Guerin. His interest in ancient mythology is reflected in works focusing on characters and stories with a sexual themes.
